“Big Crunch”

“Big Crunch” is a vivid, explorative piece of art that dives deep into the once-contemplated theory of the universe’s potential cyclical nature. The painting was born during a time when some cosmologists considered the possibility that the universe, after an extensive period of expansion, might reverse its course and collapse upon itself in an event known as the Big Crunch. This cataclysmic event, in turn, would trigger another Big Bang, birthing a new universe. While the Big Crunch theory is less favored in contemporary science, it nonetheless presents a fascinating and provocative subject for artistic exploration. Beas captures this compelling concept with a dynamic blend of oil, acrylic, watercolor, and various solvents, using the 48″ x 72″ canvas as a cosmos in itself. The painting’s visual turbulence and vibrant chaos encapsulate the envisaged drama of a universe collapsing and being reborn, while the maple frame lends a grounding contrast to the explosive imagery within.
